Ateliers Derouineau — Joinery

Wood, drawn for the place it will live.

Bespoke joinery and fitted furniture on the Left Bank of Paris. Pieces designed around what runs behind them: water supplies, ducts, consumer units, and walls that are never quite straight.

What I make.

Pieces conceived for one particular place, and fitted by the person who made them. If what you need isn't on the list, describe it: that is precisely where bespoke begins.

Vanity units

A cabinet designed around the waste and the basin, not the other way round. An access panel, a water-resistant top, drawers that work around the trap.

Storage and bookcases

Built-in cupboards, dressing rooms, bespoke bookcases. Under a slope, in an alcove, around a door: wherever off-the-shelf furniture won't fit.

Worktops

Cutting and fitting kitchen worktops, with the cut-outs for the sink, the hob and the supplies. Finished edges, tightly fitted joints.

Technical panelling

Boxing in pipes, concealing a consumer unit or a meter, radiator covers. Accessible for servicing, invisible the rest of the time.

Doors and adjustments

Planing, fitting door sets, restoring clearance after a new floor, replacing ironmongery.

Finishing after building work

Skirting boards, thresholds, wall returns: the finishing touches other trades leave behind.

Bespoke

A well-made piece takes account of what it hides.

In a Parisian apartment, nothing is square: walls lean, floors slope, and behind every partition runs a waste pipe nobody has a drawing of. A piece ordered from a catalogue arrives in round figures, and sits askew.

I measure on site, draw around what runs behind, and fit the piece myself. When plumbing or electrics are involved, there is no one to coordinate.

Joinery sits naturally alongside the other two trades: a vanity unit is wood, a waste pipe, and often a light.
