Bespoke shelves on brackets or concealed fixings, between two walls or against one.

Floating shelves

Shelves with no visible support, on fixings sized for the load.

Niches

Niches formed in a partition or wall lining, with or without lighting.

Above a worktop

Kitchen or study shelves above a worktop, aligned with what is already there.

Bathrooms

Shelves and niches in materials suited to humidity.

Fitting

Fixed into the right substrate, checked for level, finished.

The wall decides the fixing.

Old plaster, hollow brick, a lightweight partition: every wall calls for its own fixing. That is what separates a shelf that holds for ten years from one that sags within a month.
