Many older buildings still contain sections of lead or galvanised steel pipe. I locate them, replace them with copper or multilayer, and use the work to make the system clear to read and isolatable room by room.

The stages of a replacement.

Survey

Identifying the lead or steel sections, exposed or concealed, from the meter to every outlet.

Replacement

New copper or multilayer pipework, neatly surface-run or concealed depending on the project.

Manifold and valves

A manifold and a stop valve for each room: a leak no longer means shutting off the whole apartment.

Galvanised steel

Steel scales up and rusts from the inside: low pressure, discoloured water. It is replaced just as lead is.

The shared riser

If the lead is on the building's riser, I point it out to you: its replacement is a matter for the co-owners.

Finishing

Chases made good and fixings left neat. The new pipework must stay accessible where it needs to be.

Lead has no place in a water supply.

Lead pipework has been banned in France since 1995, yet many old sections remain in place. Replacing them is also the chance to rework a system patched over the decades and make it simple to maintain.
