Electrical — Doorbells and entry systems

A doorbell that rings again.

A silent bell, a push button that sticks, a chime that crackles, or simply no bell at all: a small job, but one whose diagnosis means knowing where the wire runs — and sometimes there is none.

Types

Wired, wireless, transformer-fed

Time

An hour in most cases

Area

Paris 6th, 7th, 14th, 15th, 16th

What I do.

Four situations, and the answer to each.

A wired bell that has stopped working

The fault is almost always the push button — exposed to the weather and pressed a thousand times — or the transformer in the consumer unit. Both are tested before the chime is touched.

No wire to the door

In an older apartment, running a wire from the landing to the living room is not always possible without passing through the common parts of the building. A good-quality wireless bell settles the matter neatly.

Transformer and supply

A wired bell runs on extra-low voltage, from a small transformer housed in the consumer unit. It is a part that ages and is forgotten: it can be replaced in ten minutes.

Towards a video entry system

If you are thinking of seeing who is at the door, better to decide now: the wiring is not the same, and doing both at once costs less than coming back to it.

Door fitting and adjustment

Apartment doorbell or building entry panel?

I take care of what is inside your home: the landing push button, the chime, the transformer, the apartment's video entry unit. The street panel and the shared intercom belong to the building's co-owners — I tell you so at once rather than making a wasted visit.

Where I work.

Five arrondissements — the Left Bank, and the 16th just across the river — covered neighbourhood by neighbourhood. Each arrondissement has its own page, as does each neighbourhood.

Paris 7th Champ-de-Mars · La Tour-Maubourg · Saint-François-Xavier · Rue du Bac · Saint-Germain · Solférino · Saint-Thomas-d'Aquin · Invalides · Ecole Militaire · Gros Caillou

Paris 14th Brune · Didot · Montsouris · Denfert Rochereau · Mouton Duvernet · Plaisance · Pernety · Montparnasse · Alésia

Paris 16th Trocadéro · Passy · Auteuil · La Muette · Victor Hugo · Porte Dauphine · Chaillot · Ranelagh · Exelmans · Porte de Saint-Cloud

Beyond these five arrondissements: elsewhere in Paris and the Île-de-France, depending on the project.
